Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases (NPOD)

Established in August 2014, NPOD is a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) funded by the National Institutes of Health. NPOD brings together researchers focused on preventing obesity-related diseases through innovative, nutrition-based strategies.

NPOD has strengthened Nebraska’s research enterprise by attracting accomplished scientists from across the United States and Canada, while also creating employment opportunities for office and laboratory staff, students, and investigators. Researchers are supported by a collaborative environment at both the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

NPOD supports state-of-the-art research core facilities located on UNL’s East Campus. These shared resources are available to both NPOD investigators and external researchers, providing specialized services that strengthen research capabilities and accelerate scientific progress.

Core research services include:

  • Bioinformatics and biostatistics
  • High-performance computing
  • Molecular biology support
  • Animal imaging and phenotyping
  • Metabolomics

Together, these facilities and services enhance research capacity and advance the development of strategies to prevent obesity-related diseases.
