University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) student-athletes with current eligibility, who plan to continue participation within intercollegiate athletic teams at UNL, are not eligible for admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Training Program (UNL ATP), regardless of academic or degree status. Reasons for this policy include:
- The demanding schedules of NCAA Intercollegiate student-athletes, involving time required for practice, travel, competition, and conditioning, often conflict with the clinical experience rotations typically scheduled during the same times as clinical education courses.
- Participating as an athletic training student (ATS) in the UNL ATP while also participating as a student-athlete may lead to conflicts of interest for the ATS during practices, competitions, and travel.
The UNL ATP encourages UNL student-athletes to apply to the UNL ATP upon completion of their undergraduate degree and inter-collegiate eligibility.
Inquiries regarding the UNL ATP can be directed via e-mail to UNL ATP Program Coordinator, Dennis Perkey at: dperkey2@unl.edu.
