CH 3: Section 13 - Student Holiday Policy

Students planning to be absent from scheduled didactic courses and assigned clinical education experiences for vacation or holiday should discuss travel plans with the program director and their assigned preceptor prior to their absence. The didactic and clinical aspect of their education is critical, so careful consideration of time missed should be given before planning any vacation or holiday. The timing of the absence may affect the ability to make up certain academic work, which could result in a negative impact on the student's course grade.

In-Semester Breaks

During in-semester breaks (e.g., Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Spring Break), students are expected to be available for events or practices as determined by their clinical assignment. Personal trips must be cleared with the program director and their assigned preceptor at least four weeks prior to the scheduled absence. Preceptors are encouraged to be reasonable with student requests, especially during holiday breaks.

Between-Semester Breaks

Students are not required to remain in Lincoln between academic semesters (e.g., Winter Break, Fall Sport Pre-Season), except during their assigned immersive clinical education experiences. However, some clinical sites remain open during Winter Break, offering students the opportunity to gain further clinical experience.
