Dr. Bergstrom serves as co-director of the Human Performance Lab, a student-centered research and education laboratory that focuses on applied and translational science with the goal of improving health, fitness, and performance outcomes across the lifespan. Her research primarily explores research questions related to muscle function and fatigue through non-invasive techniques that are used to elucidate the mechanisms underlying exercise fatigue responses; and examine exercise and nutritional interventions to delay the onset and mitigate the effects of fatigue across exercise modalities. Over her career, she has co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed research articles and contributed to 180 professional presentations at international, national, and regional levels. Her students have been successful in securing positions as postdoctoral scholars and faculty at R1 and private universities.
Dr. Bergstrom earned her B.S. in Exercise Science from Doane University in 2009 and her M.S. (2011) and Ph.D. (2014) in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with distinction (CSCS,*D) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Prior to her faculty appointment at UNL, Dr. Bergstrom spent more than a decade at the University of Kentucky where she served as the Exercise Physiology Lab Director (2021-2026) and Director of Graduate Studies (2023-2026).
Dr. Bergstrom is a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and was a recipient of the journal’s 2021 Editorial Excellence Award.
