As a Nutrition and Health Sciences Professor with experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for over 25 years, Dr. Hortman aspires to promote health and prevent chronic disease through her expertise and instruction in nutrition and public health. This includes community collaboration and instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition and public health related areas.
Her priorities include mentoring students to help them navigate their education and career goals in nutrition and health related areas with an approach of guiding students through reasoning and real world application of course material. This allows future health professionals to foster systems change by developing and implementing sound and realistic nutrition and health interventions and health promotion programs. This evidence-based foundation is a sustainable approach to addressing health disparity, health equity, and assisting the diverse population meet unique nutrition and health needs, overcome related challenges, and achieve healthy lifestyle behavior patterns.
