SECD to host five graduate open houses in 2018-19

14 Sep 2018     By Kelcey Buck

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will host four open houses this year for prospective students to learn more about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology. In addition, the department will also hold an open house to provide more information about its master’s thesis option in special education.

The special education master’s thesis open house will be held Oct. 3 in the Barkley Memorial Center with two 90-minute sessions. The first session runs from 5-6:30 p.m., with the second session beginning at 7 p.m. During each session, prospective students will have the opportunity to learn about the program’s curriculum, tips for application preparation and financial benefits available. Additionally, the last 30 minutes of each session will be open for individual advising appointments. For more information about the master’s thesis open house, click here

Two speech-language pathology and audiology graduate open houses will be held this semester – Oct. 26 and Nov. 30. The other two will be held during the spring 2019 semester – March 29 and April 5. Each of those four open houses begin at 9 a.m. and last until about 3 p.m. They provide prospective graduate students with opportunities to meet current students and faculty, tour the Barkley Memorial Center and the Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic, and visit research labs. In addition, students may schedule one-on-one advising appointments with faculty members specializing in their area of interest. Details about the application process and funding opportunities are also discussed. Click here for more information, including a tentative schedule for the speech-language pathology/audiology open houses.

Anyone interested in attending one of the SECD open house events is encouraged to complete the online registration form. Any questions regarding any of the graduate open houses and/or admissions process may be directed to Graduate Coordinator Jill England at jill.england@unl.edu or 402-472-2141.
