EDAD faculty receive National Science Foundation research grant

Educational Administration professors, Drs. Elvira Abrica and Deryl Hatch-Tocaimaza, have recently been awarded a grant to work on a 5-year project called "SomosSTEM! An Early Community-Based Research Pathway for Improving Undergraduate Life Sciences Success at a Rural Hispanic Serving Institution."

The project is funded through the National Science Foundation, and in partnership with STEM faculty at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), a rural Hispanic Serving Institution.

EDAD's Impact Award given to Dr. Amy Morrison

Dr. Amy Morrison has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the University of Nebraska Lincoln Department of Educational Administration’s Impact Award.

The Impact Award is presented annually to recognize the impact a distinguished Department of Educational Administration alum has had in their field, discipline, community, or organization.

Moi Padilla receives Inspiration Award

Each year, the Department of Educational Administration names a current student as the recipient of our Inspiration Award. This year, the department has named Moises “Moi” Padilla as the Inspiration Award recipient.  

The Inspiration Award is given to a student in an Educational Administration program to recognize them for their inspiring academic contributions, intellectual curiosity, and scholarly achievements that inspire students, staff, and faculty.

Dr. Scott Sturgeon as EDAD's newest faculty member

The Department of Educational Administration is excited to announce that Dr. Scott Sturgeon will be joining the department as an associate professor of practice in P-12 school leadership next fall. 

“I am quite excited about the team I will be working with, the vast and varied opportunities to support future and current educational leaders across Nebraska, and to continue to learn and grow in my own understanding about supporting student success,” Sturgeon said.     

Born and raised in Omaha, Sturgeon is a true Nebraska native.

Taeyeon Kim joins the Department

As the year draws to an end, the Department of Educational Administration is looking ahead. Next year, Taeyeon Kim will join our department as an assistant professor of P-12 school leadership. 

“I am extremely happy to accept this position,” Kim said. “Building on my previous experience, I believe this position would give me a great opportunity to grow as a researcher, educator, and mentor.” 

Before she comes to join us in Nebraska, Kim will finish her Ph.D. in K-12 Educational Administration at Michigan State University in May.

EDAD Welcomes Dr. Garcia to Faculty

The Department of Educational Administration is proud to announce that Dr. Crystal Garcia will join our team as an Assistant Professor of Higher Education, beginning in Fall 2020. 

As an EDAD alum, Dr. Garcia is excited to come home to Lincoln. 

“Accepting this position is like a homecoming for me,” Garcia said. “I am so happy to have the opportunity to return to EDAD.”

Kaleb Briscoe selected for CAHEP Early Career Workshop

Kaleb Briscoe, doctoral candidate and Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was one of 30 participants chosen for the Early Career Workshop by the Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs (CAHEP) at this year’s Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) conference.

How long have you been at UNL?

I’ve been at UNL for five years.

What did you teach/specialize in?

I’m a faculty member for the ELHE and Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration programs—basically, an emphasis on higher education.
