Briscoe receives ACPA award

Educational Administration first-year doctoral student Kaleb Briscoe will be receiving the 2017 Commission for Student Involvement Outstanding Service to the Commission Award from the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Briscoe serves as a graduate assistant in Student Involvement at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, working with the University Program Council. Her role includes overseeing operations and providing leadership development for executive board members.

Niehaus to receive two ACPA awards

Elizabeth Niehaus, assistant professor in Educational Administration, will be receiving two honors for her professional service and research next month in Columbus, Ohio at the annual convention of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). The first award is the 2017 Outstanding Service to the International Community Award. Additionally, Niehaus will receive a 2017 Excellence in International Research Award, for her work with Letitia Williams of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

EDAD's Holman fills vacancy on OPS board

Serving on a school board was never an aspiration of Shavonna Holman, assistant professor of practice in Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. But on Feb. 22, Holman will be sworn in as a member of the Omaha Public Schools Board of Education. She was appointed to the position by other board members Feb. 7, following the resignation of Justin Wayne, who was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in November.

International Seed Grant proposals due March 6

Through a generous donor grant, CEHS has funds available to enhance instruction and research through attention to international work and issues. Proposals are being solicited from faculty and staff to support coursework that includes international perspectives, research/creative work that includes an international component, or professional development activities and environmental improvements that will promote our international goals.

Proposals must be emailed to Deb Mullen (dmullen1@unl.edu) in a Word document by March 6, 2017.

National ranking badges

CEHS jumps to No. 4 in national online ranking

Online graduate education programs in the College of Education and Human Sciences have been ranked fourth best nationally in an annual ranking by U.S. News & World Report announced Jan. 10. CEHS jumped 10 spots from the 2016 ranking and is the highest Big Ten program ranked in the category of best online graduate education programs.

Benes receives NASPA regional award

Stephanie Benes, a second-year master’s degree student in the student affairs program, has been selected for the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Region IV-West Graduate Student Rising Star Award. As part of her program in the Department of Educational Administration, Benes is a graduate assistant with the Nebraska Unions where she is responsible for overseeing the operations of the welcome desk.

NASPA regional case study team wins competition.

Case study team wins NASPA regional competition

The student affairs case study team from the Department of Educational Administration has once again brought home the hardware from the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) regional conference. This year’s case study was even more competitive because the competition was part of a joint conference of regions IV-W and IV-E held Nov. 15-17 in St. Louis. The team of Linh Phu, Ashley Hurt, Kassi Woods and Stephanie Blair took first place.

Orlando shooting prompts student affairs reflection

In the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting last month, student affairs professionals are dialoguing and asking questions about how to better equip themselves and their students to respond to and confront violence and inequity. Stephanie Bondi, assistant professor of practice in Educational Administration, was a guest last week on Student Affairs Live, a weekly online learning community for student affairs educators.

EDAD grad Kane awarded for dissertation, selected ACE Fellow

Cindy Kane, a December 2014 Ph.D. graduate from the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has been awarded with the Dissertation of the Year Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
