Anti-bullying speaker to visit East Campus March 7

Anthony Ianni, an anti-bullying motivational speaker, will visit the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus to share his story of living with Autism and his message to “Live Your Dream.” Ianni’s presentation is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the Nebraska East Union.

Professor Karen Hux retires from SECD after 27 years

As Karen Hux was finishing up her doctoral program, she saw a job announcement for a faculty position at Nebraska that specifically mentioned traumatic brain injury, neurology and aphasia. She knew she had to apply since those were her areas of interest, but she had no intention of ever living in Lincoln, Nebraska. That was 1989.

ACFW collaborating to build better futures: Developing HealthyU

A group of University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers at the Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW) are collaborating with a select team of multidisciplinary professionals from Oregon, Alabama, University of South Florida and Lincoln Public Schools to create a web-based health literacy curriculum to help transition-age adolescents navigate the health care system.

International Seed Grant proposals due Dec. 18

Through a generous donor grant, CEHS has funds available to enhance instruction and research through attention to international work and issues. Proposals are being solicited from faculty and staff to support coursework that includes international perspectives, research/creative work that includes an international component, or professional development activities and environmental improvements that will promote our international goals.

Huskers give gift of hearing through humanitarian audiology project in Nicaragua

When Stacie Ray and Hannah Ditmars learned that there was only one known full-time audiologist in the entire country of Nicaragua, they saw a need, and also an opportunity. That inspired the two SECD faculty members to establish a humanitarian audiology project that would help both the people of Nicaragua and the students in Nebraska's Au.D. program.

Closing the distance: SLP students provide accent modification through tele practice and study abroad

Alicia Davis arrived at Nebraska in 1997 with the hope of building on the accent modification skills she had developed as a school-based speech-language pathologist. Now, Davis has helped give students in the speech-language pathology master’s program the opportunity to work on their own skills through tele practice and a study abroad trip to Costa Rica.
