Public Meeting Notice: Accreditation for audiology and speech-language pathology programs at Nebraska

The speech-language pathology master's program and the clinical doctorate in audiology program at Nebraska are undergoing an accreditation review this year. As part of the site visit, a meeting for public comment will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

Husker junior follows dad’s example in pursuit of special education career

Evan Lindblad grew up watching his dad positively impact students’ lives and decided at a young age he wanted to do that too. 

“My dad has always been my role model. I’ve just always looked up to him,” Lindblad said. “For the longest time, I’ve wanted to be just like my dad. My grandma also worked with special education students, so I guess you could say it kind of runs in the family.”

Seven SECD faculty recognized for service awards

Seven faculty members from the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders were among the 916 faculty and staff who received honors for years of service to the university. The annual awards are presented for employment in five-year intervals.

Resume/cover letter review hosted by Advising Center

The College of Education and Human Sciences Academic Advising Center will be hosting a resume/cover letter review day for CEHS undergraduate students on Oct. 10. Students may drop by the Hub in Henzlik Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a 15-minute resume/cover letter critique by qualified Career Services advisors.

“This is a great opportunity for CEHS students to prepare for internships, practicum, student teaching and graduation,” said Dallas Doane, a Student Affairs graduate student in the Academic Advising Center who is coordinating the event.

Marc Brennan joins audiology faculty in SECD

Perhaps Marc Brennan was destined to be an audiologist. After all, he knows firsthand what his patients are going through. Now he’s sharing that knowledge with students and pursuing research he hopes will improve auditory perception in hearing aids as an assistant professor in SECD.

SECD brown bag sessions get underway Sept. 22

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will host five brown bag sessions at the Barkley Memorial Center during the fall semester. The brown bags are intended primarily to allow graduate students to present and respond to research topics, while receiving feedback from the people in attendance. 

The brown bag sessions for the fall semester are listed below. All presentations are held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in room 131 of the Barkley Memorial Center.

New Buffett Institute study reveals struggles, strengths of child care providers

Low compensation, lack of health and retirement benefits, uneven professional preparation, and stress are among the everyday challenges confronted by the more than 1,600 participants in the "Nebraska Early Childhood Workforce Survey." Conducted by the Buffett Early Childhood Institute at the University of Nebraska, the survey is the largest, most comprehensive ever of the state’s early childhood workforce.
