Infraction Policy

Athletic Training Students (ATS) are expected to comply with all policies, procedures, professional expectations, and standards established by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Master of Science in Athletic Training Program (UNL MSAT Program), the University, and assigned clinical education sites. Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action.

Disciplinary action will generally follow a progressive process based on the nature and severity of the violation, the student’s prior disciplinary history, and the frequency or recurrence of the behavior. Depending on the seriousness of the violation, the UNL MSAT Program reserves the right to initiate disciplinary action at any level described below. Disciplinary actions may include:

1. Verbal Warning
   The student will receive a verbal warning regarding the identified concern or policy violation. The warning will be documented and maintained in the student’s program file.
2. Formal Infraction Report
   A formal Infraction Report Form will be completed by the student’s preceptor or a UNL MSAT Program faculty member. The report will be submitted to the Program Director and maintained in the student’s program file.
3. Formal Infraction Report and Temporary Suspension from Clinical Education
   A formal Infraction Report Form will be completed, and the student may be temporarily suspended from the current clinical education assignment. The student will receive a written improvement plan that identifies the reason for the suspension, the duration of the suspension, expectations for corrective action, and the conditions that must be satisfied before the student may return to good standing and/or resume clinical education activities.
4. Formal Infraction Report, Removal from Clinical Education Assignment, and Probation
   A formal Infraction Report Form will be completed, and the student may be removed from the current clinical education assignment and placed on program probation. The conditions and requirements associated with probation will be administered in accordance with the UNL MSAT Program Probation Policy.
5. Termination from the UNL MSAT Program or University
   Serious violations, repeated infractions, failure to satisfy the conditions of an improvement plan or probation, or conduct that warrants immediate dismissal may result in termination from the UNL MSAT Program and/or referral to the appropriate University process. When applicable, termination from the program will be administered in accordance with the UNL MSAT Program Termination Policy.

The progressive nature of this policy does not require that each disciplinary level be completed before a more serious consequence is imposed. The UNL MSAT Program may initiate disciplinary action at the level determined appropriate based on the nature, severity, circumstances, and potential impact of the violation.
