CH 3: Section 11 - Monetary Remuneration Academic Policy

Athletic training students (ATS) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) are not employees of any department where they complete academic requirements for the UNL Athletic Training Program (UNL ATP). Therefore, ATS are not permitted to receive monetary compensation for services performed as part of their academic duties within the program.

It is a violation of program policy for an ATS to accept any form of financial compensation for activities related to the UNL ATP while enrolled in the program. This includes, but is not limited to, payment for athletic training services provided as part of academic coursework.

Scholarships and fellowships, however, are not considered monetary compensation and do not violate this policy. These funds are applied directly to the student’s university account to help cover academic expenses such as tuition and fees.

Each year, students must complete an agreement in Typhon, stating:

"By signing and printing my name below, I agree to the following:

  • I have been given access to and agree to comply with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Athletic Training Program Monetary Remuneration Academic Policy while enrolled as an athletic training student in the program.
  • I understand that if I violate this policy, I may face disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Athletic Training Program."
