CH 3: Section 13 - Student Holiday Policy

Students who plan to be absent from scheduled didactic courses or clinical education experiences for vacation or holiday travel must discuss their plans in advance with both the Program Director and their assigned preceptor. Because didactic and clinical education are critical components of the program, students should carefully consider the impact of missed time before scheduling any travel. In some cases, the timing of an absence may limit the ability to make up coursework or clinical experiences and could negatively affect the course grade.

In-Semester Breaks

During in-semester breaks (e.g., Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break), students are expected to remain available for practices, games, or events as determined by their clinical assignment. Personal travel during these times must be approved by both the Program Director and assigned preceptor at least four weeks in advance. Preceptors are encouraged to be reasonable in considering requests, particularly around holiday breaks.

Between-Semester Breaks

Students are generally not required to remain in Lincoln between academic semesters (e.g., Winter Break, Fall Sport Preseason), unless they are participating in an immersive clinical education experience. Some clinical sites remain active during Winter Break, and students may have the opportunity to gain additional clinical experience at those times.
