  • Business Event Coordination (HM 463)
I developed this course as a bridge between the Introduction to Events Course (basic concepts) and the Event Capstone Course (having actual clients). Students spent the semester as their own clients with each group planning an event of their choice that would benefit the United Way. They applied all concepts from start to finish theoretically and then presented their plans to the United Way board.

    • Highlights:

      • The United Way went on to produce all six of these events with the students the next semester. These events attracted over 1,000 people. One attendee was so impressed that they donated money to the Kansas State foundation for an event management student scholarship.

    • Spring 2018

  • The Travel and Dining Auction (HM 427)
Like the required events capstone course above, in this course students must plan, market, and produce a live event. This elective course is focused on fundraising events and producing the department’s annual fundraiser – the Travel and Dining Auction. This auction funds all student clubs and departmental student scholarships.

    • Spring 2018: Secured approximately $60,000 in donations and raised over $30,000 through tickets, live, silent, and online auction.

    • Spring 2017: Secured approximately $55,000 in donations and raised over $30,000 through tickets, live, silent, and online auction.

  • Hospitality Sales and Promotion (HM 424)
I re-developed this course from Hospitality Marketing to Hospitality Sales. In this class we partnered with a local organization to conduct market research, target market analysis, current customer base, and suggested hours of operation. Classes also
prospected areas across the country to learn the process of cold calling.
