Summer 2011 Brings Major Renovation Project in TCD

16 May 2011

Work began at the close of the Spring 2011 semester on the main TCD apparel design studio, which will be transformed into an expanded space over the course of the summer season. Two office spaces adjacent to the studio will be incorporated into a larger design studio that promises more ease-of-movement in classes that generally run at capacity. All new sewing workstations designed to be more ergonomically functional and to provide more surface layout and cutting area are being fabricated by Contemporary Woods of Lincoln, along with individual student lockers, wardrobe storage, and conference tables. New adjustable seating will accompany the re-designed workstations, and new wallcoverings will offer increased student pin-up surfaces for display and critique. The corridor side of the studio will be re-designed with large full-length display cases that will accommodate fully outfitted mannequins for display of student work and work from the historic costume collection. The furnishings color palette will range from light to medium gray against the "pickled" (near white) oak of the furniture. Stay tuned for further reports as the work progresses!
