The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design sponsors a variety of international experiences. In partnership with American Intercontinental University, students can enroll in classes throughout the year in London and transfer credit is possible. Students learn about the global fashion marketplace, take classes in specialized areas, and study with other individuals from around the world.

- Annual Summer Sessions study tours alternate in a three-year cycle:
- New York City
- Europe (Paris/Milan, London/Paris, Paris/Prague, etc.)
- Asia (Shanghai area & Beijing)
- Semester abroad in collaboration with
- Lorenzo de’ Medici, the Italian International Institute
- American Intercontinental University
- University of the Arts, London

TMFD’s study tours give students an unparalleled opportunity to:
- Visit buying offices, designer showrooms, design studios and product development labs
- Visit factories and distribution centers, and other industry-related venues that demonstrate the vitality and complexity of global apparel and textile development, production and consumption
- Meet with designers and executives of major retail businesses, with apparel and textile manufacturers, and with their peers at the grass-roots level, on the streets and in the shops where fashion and textiles are merchandised and sold
- Explore the history of global textile and apparel design, experience the traditions of "haute couture," and discover cutting edge practices in textiles, fashion and merchandising
- Discover different cultural, aesthetic, social and political traditions and systems
