TMFD Alums Help Students Along their Career Paths

Rachel Sheehy (l.) with jcpenney vendor Executive VP for Sales Scott Starnes of Dorfman-Pacific, Inc., speaking to Dallas Career Day study tour students and faculty at the Dallas Trade Center in April 2013

The Department had the pleasure during the week of September 23rd to welcome two alumnae who’ve each been making important career strides since graduation.

After leaving UNL in 2008, Rachel (Brown) Sheehy began her merchandising career at JCPenney Headquarters in Plano, Texas.  Initially, she was selected as one of three individuals for JCP’s elite Merchandising Trainee Program.  Her work merchandising children’s and family shoes led to an Assistant Buyer position for Men’s Accessories and Gifts.  Rachel recently emerged as an E-Commerce Assistant Buyer, focusing on online goods and services for the company.  During her visit to TMFD Rachel met with faculty and spoke one-on-one with a number of students seeking career recommendations. Rachel believes that networking is an essential part of the industry, and thus provided the students with unique insights based on her experience-to-date, new ideas and promising opportunities.  Congratulations, Rachel, on celebrating five years with JCPenney – and your new position there!

Also in town to touch base with family and friends, JLynn Hausmann took time from her busy schedule as owner and creative principal of JHausbrand, based in Los Angeles, to share her company’s developing story as it makes important inroads into the denim retail market. Focusing primarily on women’s jeans in a range of styles, JHaus also produces day and evening wear and has been working aggressively to expand its retail coverage. Here in Lincoln JHausbrand is carried by Embellish boutique, and Zappos.com picked up JHausbrand in 2013. JLynn spoke to TMFD’s first-year orientation seminar as well as to classes in the product development, fashion design and merchandising areas, generously sharing her hard-won experience and her growing company’s successes. Congratulations, JLynn, on JHausbrand’s increasing success!
