Nebraska Letterbox Club selected for Celebrate Literacy Award

The Nebraska Letterbox Club, a program organized by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW), was selected as the recipient of the Celebrate Literacy Award by the Eastern Nebraska Reading Council.

The award will be presented at the next Eastern Nebraska Reading Council meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Barnes & Noble at SouthPointe Pavilions in Lincoln.

Nebraska Letterbox Club selling popcorn Oct. 24-28 on East Campus

The Academy for Child and Family Well Being at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be selling popcorn Oct. 24-28 to raise money for the Nebraska Letterbox Club, which sends educational packages to children in Nebraska’s foster care system.

Inaugural interdisciplinary Learning Technology Academy launches

It all started with a visit to a gaming company in California. Now, Ron Nelson’s idea for an interdisciplinary Learning Technology Academy is coming to fruition with the formation of the student team that will work together to create learning technologies for children experiencing learning difficulties.

Applications being accepted for third annual undergraduate trip to Costa Rica

For the third year in a row, undergraduate students in special education and speech-language pathology have the opportunity to spend two weeks in Costa Rica as part of a Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders study abroad trip.

Hanen Centre’s “It Takes Two to Talk” workshop set for Sept. 28

A free workshop for students featuring The Hanen Program for Parents model for family-focused early language intervention for young children will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Ruth Leverton Hall.

The two-hour workshop is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. in Ruth Leverton Room 204, located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus. The workshop will be presented by Toby Stephan, a trained instructor from the Hanen Centre, which is a not-for-profit organization based in Canada that is dedicated to addressing delays in language development in young children.

First brown bag session of fall semester set for Sept. 23

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders announced five fall semester dates for brown bag sessions at the Barkley Memorial Center. The brown bags are intended primarily to allow graduate students to present and respond to research topics, while receiving feedback from the people in attendance.

Student Council for Exceptional Children to host sand volleyball tournament Oct. 2

The Student Council for Exceptional Children at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host Serve for SCEC, a sand volleyball tournament, at Pioneers Park Sunday, Oct. 2, to raise money for various club activities.

Pool play for the six-on-six coed tournament begins at 11 a.m. at the sand volleyball courts in Pioneers Park, with seeding for the single-elimination tournament determined by pool play.
