Learning Technology Academy seeking students for 2016-17

University of Nebraska-Lincoln students in business, computer science, education, and fine and performing arts/film studies have a new opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration with the launch of the Learning Technology Academy this fall.

Ron Nelson, the Larry & Sharon Roos Family Professor of Special Education, developed the idea for the academy in an effort to create learning technologies for children experiencing learning difficulties, while also providing interdisciplinary training for UNL students.

Kelly Pritchett selected for Golisano Health Leadership Award from Special Olympics Nebraska

Special Olympics Nebraska announced that University of Nebraska-Lincoln associate professor of practice Kelly Pritchett has been selected as the 2016 Golisano Health Leadership Award honoree. She was presented the award during the Special Olympics Nebraska Fall Games banquet Saturday, Aug. 6.

Six individuals set for inaugural audiology trip to Nicaragua July 30-Aug. 10

Stacie Ray established HearU Nebraska in 2007 to provide hearing aids for children whose families otherwise may not be able to afford them. Nine years later, Ray has expanded that idea as she and five other individuals from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders make the first of what will become annual trips to Nicaragua to provide audiology services through HearU International.

Angela Dietsch selected for ASHA Early Career Award

University of Nebraska-Lincoln assistant professor Angela Dietsch was selected as the recipient of the 2016 Early Career Contributions in Research Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

The award recognizes significant scientific accomplishments by individuals beyond the dissertation and within five years of receiving their doctoral or other terminal degree. As the 2016 recipient, Dietsch will be presented with her award at the ASHA convention scheduled for Nov. 17-19 in Philadelphia.

Nelson named Roos Family Professor of Special Education

J. Ron Nelson has been named the Larry and Sharon Roos Family Professor of Special Education.

During his 25-year career in special education, Nelson has focused on designing interventions to help children experiencing learning difficulties. He has published 130 peer-reviewed articles, 20 book chapters and 10 books.

Speech-language pathology, special education students set for two-week trip to Costa Rica
