The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has an over 150-year history of providing quality education and human sciences programing. In 2003, the College of Education and Human Sciences was formed following a strategic and collaborative planning process that combined the College of Human Resources and Family Sciences, and Teachers College. The creation of the College of Education and Human Sciences established the foundation for collaborative work between seven departments with the focus on enhancing the lives of individuals, families, schools, and communities.
As one of the seven departments that make up the College of Education and Human Sciences, the Department of Nutrition and Human Sciences is home to the Athletic Training Program. On April 24, 2004, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Training Program received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). In 2006 accreditation was transferred to the newly formed Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
