The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design is dedicated to finding solutions for creating a more sustainable textiles industry through our programs, research, creative activity and Extension work. Our students receive a comprehensive education that highlights how textiles and apparel are developed from beginning to end, including industry-driven skills in fiber development, apparel design and product development, merchandising and selling, fashion branding and styling, material culture, and entrepreneurship.

On Dec. 5, 2025, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted to eliminate the programs in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design. Current students are being provided with degree completion pathways, but we are no longer accepting new students for any of our programs.
