The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery is hosting a First Friday reception for its current exhibition, “Garment Labels: The Fine Print of Dress(ing),” from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6.

The First Friday event will include finger food, door prizes and a selfie spot. The Hillestad Gallery is located on the second floor of the Gwendolyn Newkirk Human Sciences Building at 1650 N. 35th Street on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus.

The exhibition follows the evolution of garment labels, exploring both their practical uses for industry and their tacit implications for wearing the garments. From their earliest iteration, garment labels conveyed more than facts; they were and continue to be a means of expressing social identities.

First Friday Artwalks are organized by the Downtown Lincoln Association and are held on the first Friday of every month at galleries and businesses in and around downtown Lincoln.

The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery educates and increases awareness of the rich traditions of art, craft, design and material culture expressed through the exhibition of all forms of textiles and apparel. The gallery is dedicated to Robert Hillestad, an internationally renowned fiber artist and Professor Emeritus of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design.
