Personal experience has helped motivate the development of Theresa Catalano’s new book, “Talking about Global Migration: Implications for Language Teaching.” The book addresses educational responses to migration that are informed by interviews with migrants across the globe.

Heaton honored by AMTE

Ruth Heaton, the Gilmartin Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), was presented the 2016 Nadine Bezuk Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service in Mathematics Teacher Education Jan. 28 in Irvine, California at the annual conference of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE).

Online graduate education program ranked 14th nationally

The College of Education and Human Science’s online graduate education program has been ranked 14th nationally by U.S. News and World Report. CEHS was ranked fourth among Big Ten peers and is the second highest ranked program west of the Mississippi.

Eleven CEHS Students Earn Academic All-Big Ten Honors

Eleven CEHS students out of 51 Nebraska student-athletes have been awarded Academic All-Big Ten Honors. Students must be in their second academic year, be a letterwinner, and maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average to be eligible for the Academic All-Big Ten selection.

CEHS Student Research and Creative Activity Fair Nov. 14

CEHS undergraduate and graduate students will share their work with fellow students, faculty and other educators and community members Saturday, Nov. 14 at Teachers College Hall and the Henzlik Hub. Other UNL students and recent alums who have engaged in the study of education and/or human sciences have also been invited to share.

The aim of the conference is to give students an opportunity to showcase their work and dialogue with peers and mentors about important issues in education and the human sciences.

Wang to lecture on "Context and Language Transfer" Nov. 5

Chuming Wang, president of the Chinese Society of Second Language Research and professor of English at the National Research Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, will deliver a university wide lecture entitled “Context and Language Transfer” from 4–5 p.m., Nov. 5, 2015 in Othmer Hall, Room 105. The lecture, sponsored by UNL's Confucius Institute and the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, will be followed by a reception to which all are invited to meet Dr. Wang.

NSF Noyce grant to fund UNL scholarships for future science teachers

A three-year, $799,890 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant awarded to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) will be used to help meet the growing need for high school and middle school science teachers. The Phase II Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship grant will provide scholarships for qualifying graduate students to participate in UNL’s Master of Arts with emphasis in science teaching (MAst) program. The 14-month program prepares students to teach middle and high school science.

Major CEHS initiative invests in early childhood

Responding to changing demographics and a growing population of young at-risk children, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln today announced a strategic initiative to strengthen support for early childhood development in Nebraska.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences Marjorie Kostelnik, Lt. Gov. Mike Foley and others shared the plans at the Van Brunt Visitors Center.

Teaching for global competencies workshop Sept. 19

In a globalization era, what constitutes “global competencies” in education?  What understandings and professional skills will nurture educators' innovative growth and enhance student learning? Supported, in part, by a generous Humanities Nebraska grant, a cross-institutional professional development experience will take place from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19 at Henzlik Hall on UNL's City Campus.
