The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s online master’s program in Educational Administration has been ranked No. 10 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The program jumped two spots from its No. 12 ranking last year. 2022 marks the sixth consecutive year the program has been featured in the ranking.
U.S. News compiled the ranking based on engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, services and technologies, and student excellence. To compile such information, U.S. news compiled a list of education schools offering online master’s degree programs. Data was collected from 338 schools, who confirmed they would be offering a master's in education degree program through internet-based distance education courses in the 2021-2022 academic year.
“The principalship has never been more challenging or important than right now. This recognition serves as affirmation of Dr. Shavonna Holman’s leadership and engagement from faculty, staff, students, alums, and stakeholders,” said Nicholas Pace, professor and chairperson of the Department of Educational Administration . “As proud as we are of the ranking itself, the real joy comes in seeing our Husker Scholars make impacts as school leaders across Nebraska and beyond."
Nebraska's online Educational Administration program is built around the school leader as a visionary thinker, reflective learner, and servant leader. Faculty members are Nebraska professors, experienced administrators, and curriculum specialists who are dedicated to preparing students for rewarding and fulfilling careers as P-12 school leaders. Students learn from leading authorities who share well-established expertise on particular topics, such as instructional leadership, school culture and climate, technology, grading and assessment, curriculum, and other key topics.
“Participating in the M.Ed. program at UNL was one of the best decisions I have made in my professional career,” said Kyle Poore, alum of the program and current district security coordinator at Lincoln Public Schools. “The program also gave me enough leadership tools to use in many different roles, including the unique role I have now, which is district security coordinator.
The focus of the program is P-12 school leadership, leading to administrative endorsement in Nebraska. The program is designed to be completed in two years and features and authentic, field-based internship.
To make the principalship more accessible, the program has launched the Big Red Leader initiative, which provides a 15% tuition reduction for newly admitted students with a previous degree from UNL, who serve in rural/underserved communities in Nebraska or buildings/districts receiving Title 1 support. The application deadline for summer admission into the program is April 1. To learn more, visit https://go.unl.edu/nz37.
