Distance Learning Education Pedagogy and Recommended Practices

The following are guidelines for the development and provision of online instruction for courses taught in the Professional Studies in Dietetics Specialization:

  1. The educational experience of a student enrolled in an online course should be comparable to the experience they would have if the class were taught in-person.  For example:  course goals should be clearly communicated, a detailed syllabus must be provided, assessment of student learning should occur regularly, etc.
  2. Must provide timely and appropriate interaction between students and faculty comparable to a traditional classroom setting.  Ideally, the opportunity for interaction happens weekly.  Information for the preferred method for contacting the instructor must be readily available.
  3. Information must be clearly stated relative to the technological requirements to be successful in the course and related to resources for resolving technical issues experienced by the student.
  4. The course must ensure the integrity of student work.
