Due to the passage of LB 1218 (revised statute 79-318(5)(g)) by the Nebraska Legislature in April of 2022, the Nebraska Department of Education no longer requires verification of basic skills (a passing score on each of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests) for admission to an educator preparation program. However, basic skills verification remains as a requirement for full certification in the state of Nebraska as does a passing score on a Praxis Subject Exam (if applicable).

The College of Education & Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has elected to require that a student must take the basic skills (each of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests) as an eligibility requirement for program  admission at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.  Students coming into the college must acknowledge receipt of information and verify their understanding (below) that though evidence of passing the basic skills exam is not required for admission, it is still required for full Nebraska Teacher Certification to cover all levels of teaching and teaching endorsements earned, including educational leadership, school counseling, and other areas leading to licensure.

By signing this electronic form with your name, you agree to the following.

"I understand that while verification of basic skills (a passing score on each of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests) is not required for admission to the College of Education & Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, taking the exam is required to be eligible to apply for program admission. I understand that verification of basic skills is required for full certification by the state of Nebraska. Furthermore, I understand that should I need to obtain Nebraska certification as a step to be certified as an educator, leader, school counselor, or other educator needing licensure in another state, country, or territory, I will need to provide verification of basic skills to the Nebraska Department of Education as a certification requirement."
