Spring 2021 Methodology Applications Series presentation available on video

22 Mar 2021     By Chuck Green, CYFS

Jeffrey Smith, associate professor of sociology, led a Spring 2021 Methodology Applications Series presentation March 12.

Video is now available of his virtual presentation, “Using Network Analysis to Measure Social Cohesion: Complete versus Sampled Network Data.”

In his presentation, Smith covers the basic theoretical, methodological and substantive underpinnings of network analysis — which focuses on the relationships connecting actors, rather than on the properties of the actors themselves — and discusses ways network analysis has been used to measure social cohesion.

Smith also discusses the differences between census, or complete, network data, and sampled network data, showing how each can be used to measure social cohesion.

The Methodology Applications Series is sponsored by CYFS’ MAP Academy. The final presentation of the spring will be April 16, and will be led by Lorey Wheeler, MAP Academy co-director.
