TMFD Ph.D. Student Bingnan Mu Recieves John and Louise Skala Fellowship

Bingnan Mu, TMFD Ph.D. graduate student currently working under the supervision of Dr. Yiqi Yang, has received a John and Louis Skala Fellowship. This award is made in recognition of outstanding performance as a graduate student. The Skala fellowship is granted annually to full-time graduate students in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources engaged in research for new uses of agricultural products. Burton and Jorgensen receive 2019 CEHS awards

Dr. Jennifer Jorgensen, Assistant Professor in the department of Textiles Merchandising & Fashion Design has been selected as one of three recipients of the 2019 College of Education and Human Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award. The committee was impressed with her contributions and excellence in teaching. These are already very well known to us in the department, and it’s great to have Jennybeth’s contributions acknowledged by the College.

TMFD graduate thesis project uses 3D body scanning and 3-D printer technology to combat gaming stereotypes

As part of her final master's degree project in Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design, College of Education and Human Sciences, Stephanie Pitcher used body scanning and 3-D printer technology to create avatars of real women.

For as long as she’s loved video games, one question has nagged at Stephanie Pitcher — why, in an industry where nearly half of all players are women, are female avatars not more representative and diverse? Her project can be seen on the second floor of the Human Sciences Building until Feb. 1, 2019. Check out the full article in Nebraska Today!

Wei Li and Bingnan Mu, Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design (TMFD) Ph.D. students have received research grants from the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) Foundation.

Wei Li. "Completely Stereo-complexed PLA Fibers with Good Dyeability and Retention of Mechanical Properties for Textile Applications." ($2,000).

Bingnan Mu. "Natural Colorants from Sorghum Hulls for Cotton Dyeing." ($1,400).

TMFD Student Md. Rashaduzzman recipient of two awards from ITAA

Md. Rashaduzzaman, Ph.D. Student in Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design received two awards from the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) on November 9, 2018 at ITAA's annual conference in Cleveland, Ohio. The two awards are "The Lois Dickey Fellowship: Outstanding Continuing Doctoral Student Award 2018" ($1,000 stipend) and "The Sara Douglas Fellowship for Professional Promise: Doctoral Student Award 2018" ($500 stipend).

TMFD students participate in Project Funway fundraiser

The College of Education and Human Science’s Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design (TMFD) is participating in “Project Funway,” an annual fundraiser for Fresh Start, a nonprofit that helps homeless women get back on their feet. This is Project Funway’s ninth year, and TMFD students have been involved every year. Through donations, community support and fundraisers, Fresh Start has provided services to homeless women for more than 25 years.

Pankaj Desai Performs North Indian Classical Music

In conjunction with the exhibition Pigment on Cloth: Tradition, Family, and the Art of Indian Pichvai Painting, the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery presents Pankaj Desai on tabla, a leading percussive instrument of the Hindustani or North Indian Classical Music form. This First Friday November 2 performance, accompanied by the sounds of another traditional instrument, the sarangi, will be in the traditional baithak style, wherein the audience and the artist are seated on the gallery floor in an informal and intimate setting.
