Michael Burton's solo exhibition at Kiechel Fine Art opening reception scheduled for January 10, 2020

Michael Burton’s solo exhibition A Gold Slipper at the Kiechel Fine Arts (1208 “O” Street) is scheduled January 10, 2020 – February 14, 2020.  An opening reception will take place on January 10, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a soprano vocalist singing at 7:00 p.m.

TMFD Professor and Chair Michael James to Retire

A retirement reception for Michael James, chair of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design, will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the department office, located on the second floor of the Human Sciences (formerly Home Economics) Building on East Campus. The reception is free and open to the public. Informal remarks are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

Samuelson honored with CEHS Staff Star Award

Rosanne Samuelson, administrative support associate in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design, has been named the recipient of the Oct. 2019 Staff Star Award by the CEHS Staff Council.

Samuelson, a longtime TMFD staff member, coordinates logistical aspects of projects so that they are efficiently and effectively realized.

“Rosanne is consistently forward-thinking and alert to department needs as they develop,” said her nominator. “She outlines a plan, assigns task if appropriate, and follows through to completion.”

TMFD Ph.D. Student Bingnan Mu Recieves John and Louise Skala Fellowship

Bingnan Mu, TMFD Ph.D. graduate student currently working under the supervision of Dr. Yiqi Yang, has received a John and Louis Skala Fellowship.  This award is made in recognition of outstanding performance as a graduate student.  The Skala fellowship is granted annually to full-time graduate students in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources engaged in research for new uses of agricultural products.  Congratulations Bingnan Mu!

Burton and Jorgensen receive 2019 CEHS awards

Dr. Jennifer Jorgensen, Assistant Professor in the department of Textiles Merchandising & Fashion Design has been selected as one of three recipients of the 2019 College of Education and Human Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award. The committee was impressed with her contributions and excellence in teaching. These are already very well known to us in the department, and it’s great to have Jennybeth’s contributions acknowledged by the College.

Crafting Culture project celebrates diverse women entrepreneurs in textiles

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design is hosting “Crafting Culture: Women and the Business of Textiles in Nebraska,” an exhibition at the Nebraska History Museum, in partnership with the museum and the Asian Community and Cultural Center.
