The public is invited to a panel discussion on February 16, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 31 of the Human Sciences Building titled “Teaching From The Collections” featuring Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design faculty members Drs. Mary Alice Casto, Sandra Starkey and Claire Nicholas, and assistant professor of practice Michael Burton, along with Ph.D. graduate student Molly McPherson.

Cunningham will share insights into his quilting career, several of his quilts and a few songs at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum. This free event, which is open to people of all ages, marks the inaugural Mary Ghormley Memorial Lecture.
Through a generous donor grant, CEHS has funds available to enhance instruction and research through attention to international work and issues. Proposals are being solicited from faculty and staff to support coursework that includes international perspectives, research/creative work that includes an international component, or professional development activities and environmental improvements that will promote our international goals.

Thursday, January 19th, 12:00 p.m. in room 31 Human Sciences Building , University of Nebraska-Lincoln east campus, Dr. Claire Nicholas, Assistant Professor of Textiles and Material Culture, will deliver a lecture that provides a comparative window onto embroidery in a radically different cultural context from that of 19th century America.

The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery closed its doors at the end of April for a month-long renovation that saw the removal of all of the carpet-like fabric wall covering and its replacement with sheetrock, and the painting of the entire gallery. In addition, the gallery’s staging room was likewise renovated, with the removal of wall-mounted cupboards and a corresponding kitchen sink and counter ensemble that had long been inadequate to the storage and usage needs of that back-of-house area.
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design is proud to announce the 2016 winners of the Mary Mitchell Fashion Excellence Awards, shown at this year’s Biennial Student Runway Show held on April 22nd in the Centennial Ballroom at City Union. Over 100 student designs were juried by alumnus Jillian Fellers, of Jillian Fellers Bridal in Lincoln, Laura McGrew, head designer of TOMBOY design studio in Kansas City, and Brook Hudson, producer of Omaha Fashion Week.
The College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will present its annual CEHS awards at 10 a.m., April 22 at the Sheldon Museum of Art, with a reception following.
