Jenny Gilmore, finance specialist, CEHS Business Center

Awarded the Floyd S. Oldt Award from the University Association for Administrative Development. The award recognizes employees for outstanding management skills and exceptional service to the university. Learn more

Afsana Khanam, doctoral student and graduate research assistant in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences

Named a finalist for the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program, a program of the American Society for Nutrition which recognizes the highest quality research presented by students and young investigators at NUTRITION 2021 LIVE ONLINE. More than 800 abstracts were submitted by students and postdoctoral fellows and the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program aims to recognize the top 15% highest scoring abstracts. Abstracts were rated by more than 450 nutrition scientists.

Molly Sambol, secondary education major specializing in English language arts

Awarded a Fulbright grant to teach English in South Korea. An Omaha native, she was a secondary education major specializing in English language arts. The Fulbright Program, the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, is designed to forge lasting connections between Americans and citizens of other countries; counter misunderstandings; and help people and nations work together toward common goals. Janos Zempleni, Willa Cather Professor of Molecular Nutrition in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, Director of the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases

Appointed a member of the Academic Volunteer Interest/Expert Group for the Human Milk Composition Initiative. Coordinated by the The Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, United States Department of Health and Human Services and Health Canada, the Initiative is charged with assessing the content of nutrients and bioactive compounds in human milk.

Eight students in the College of Education and Human Sciences won awards during Student Research Days, held April 12-16. The week-long virtual event was hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Office of Research and Economic Development. Over 200 graduate and undergraduate students participated in the celebration of student research and creative work. Learn more
