Klare to offer lecture April 8

07 Apr 2013

Matthew Klare, National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities, will provide an overview of the status of dropout prevention, intervention and recovery, particularly for students with disabilities. He will describe a dropout prevention risk calculator currently being refined in cooperation with Goodrich Middle School in Lincoln and explain how it can be used to intervene for high risk students. He will also address strategies to prevent dropouts and recover students who have dropped out.

Klare's lecture is being sponsored by the department of Special Education and Communication.

The title of Klare's lecture is "Dropout prevention, intervention and recovery." It will be held April 8 in room 321 Barkley Memorial Center. Snacks and drinks will be provided 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the lecture beginning at 4:30 p.m. Discussion and questions will follow at 5:30.

Klare joined the National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities (NDPC-SD) in March 2005, coming from American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, DC. For the last 18 years, Klare’s focus has been in the areas of assessment development and operations. While at AIR, he worked on alternate assessments and Braille and Limited English Proficiency accommodations for statewide achievement tests at grades K-8. At NDPC-SD he provides technical assistance to states and is assisting with the development of a model of dropout prevention for students with disabilities that incorporates research-based practices.
