Office 365 is expanding beyond email

26 Jun 2013

To all UNL Office 365 Email customers, from Information Services:

Office 365 is expanding beyond email.   Microsoft will upgrade UNL's Office 365 environment within the next 14-20 days. This upgrade will enable UNL to roll out additional features of Office 365 at a later date--like sharing and collaborating on documents via SharePoint, storing files in the cloud with SkyDrive Pro, and using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote using just a web browser via Office 365.

Information Services will notify you with the exact upgrade date when it is set by Microsoft.   No system downtime is expected, but if you are using email during the upgrade you may receive a notice to restart your email.   After the upgrade, you will notice a new, clean look to webmail and Lync online.  If you currently use the Outlook client, there will be no noticable changes.

There are new minimum requirements for the Outlook client as well as the operating system detailed at the website listed below.  Windows XP users may need to download an update in order to connect to their account following the upgrade.  Mobile devices may require a setting change.  Also, If you are traveling for an extended period and have concerns regarding your account, please contact us at mysupport@unl.edu.

What do I need to do to prepare?

• If your computer is currently managed by Information Services, no preparation is necessary; your device's system is current.
• If managed by a departmental IT staff, please consult with them; they are aware of this upgrade and your system may already be up-to-date.
• If you currently manage your own computer, you may wish to contact your department IT support or the Computer Help Center at  (402) 472-3970 or toll-free (866) 472-3970 or submit a request via mysupport@unl.edu .

Again, we will notify you when the exact upgrade date has been determined by Microsoft.
