Lauren Marshall is a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, majoring in nutrition, exercise and health science.
Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I chose UNL because I wasn’t ready to move far away from Omaha. The hour distance from home is close but not too close.
What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?
I’ve been involved in Pre-Physical Therapy Club since freshman year and a secretary since sophomore year. I’ve met people that are also interested in physical therapy and have listened to great physical therapists. I’m a College of Education of Human Sciences Ambassador and have loved learning more about UNL!! I was a Chemistry 109L TA in Fall 2023. My favorite part was working with my students. I’m a member of Hillel which is a Jewish club on campus. It’s great to connect with other Jewish students.
What has been your favorite class and why?
My favorite class I’ve taken is Psychology of Music. I really enjoyed the content and Professor Woody is really great. I’ve applied my knowledge from this class as a Chemistry TA and a volunteer at a music organization called Omaha Girls Rock.
What are your career goals?
My career goal is to become a physical therapist. I’m currently committed to Tufts University in Seattle, Washington, and waiting on a few other admissions decisions.
What do you enjoy doing outside of campus?
Off-campus I’m a Physical Therapy Technician at Husker Rehabilitation. It’s a great opportunity to get work inside a clinic. I’m also able to bring my dog Sophie along, since we’re training to be a Therapy Dog Team. It brings a unique and positive experience to physical therapy. Patients love Sophie and Sophie LOVES coming to work. I love sharing Sophie and finding people that enjoy her just as much as I do. Outside of work Sophie is an amazing companion. She’s the reason why I consistently exercise. We walk about five miles a day when the weather is nice. We averaged 11 miles a day during the summer. She provides a lot of emotion support and has helped me familiarize myself with Lincoln, which makes Lincoln feel like home.
