Meet Taylor Kudym, a senior from Lincoln, Nebraska, who is majoring in nutrition, exercise and health sciences.

Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I have always loved Lincoln and growing up here. It is a tight knit community with deep roots. If you meet someone from here chances are they know someone you know.

Why did you choose to major in nutrition, exercise and health sciences?

I chose a major in nutrition, exercise and health sciences because health and well-being has always been a passion of mine. Since I was just 11 years old, I have paid attention to getting in all my fruits and vegetables. My parents were a huge inspiration to me as they chose every day to live a lifestyle that nourishes their body and helps them to feel good. In choosing this degree, I aspire to teach others how they can do the same.

What has been your favorite class so far and why?

My favorite class was anatomy. I came into the class with a negative attitude thinking that I was going to hate it. But I ended up meeting five people, some of which became my closest friends. Even though it was tough I ended up loving every minute of the class.

What experiences have you gained during your time as an NHS student that have helped you solidify what you want to do in the future?

In my time as an NHS student, I have had the opportunity to work with a volunteer from LPS. With that volunteer, we set goals for him to live a healthier lifestyle. Each week, we would meet via Zoom and discuss how his goals went. This was a great experience for me. It felt so good to help someone make changes to their lifestyle that will help them to feel better, have more energy, and have fewer limits. People often take for granted the abilities they have with a healthy body. Many times, people realize too late that it is so important to nourish your body. That experience really helped me to solidify my choice to be in NHS.

What are your career goals?

I have always wanted to do something with group fitness. I’ve always had a passion for health and well-being, whether it’s mental or physical. I hope to become a wellness coach along with teaching many group fitness classes, and doing personal training.

Tell us about your new position at Crunch Fitness – what will you be doing and how is this a good fit for what you want to do moving forward?

My position at Crunch involves many responsibilities and opportunities for me to grow. As the group fitness coordinator, I will oversee all 16+ group fitness instructors. I will recruit, hire, and develop a strong and diverse GFI team. I will create a class schedule with a goal of 55+ classes per week, including 30 group fitness, 8-10 cycling, and 8-10 high intensity interval training (HIITZone) classes. I will serve as the face of everything group fitness at the Crunch Lincoln location. This means I will handle any member issues, feedback, and concerns. I plan to turn around the program at Crunch by creating a fun, friendly, and judgment-free environment. I hope to bring more college-age students not only into Crunch, but into group fitness as well. Group fitness is a great way to achieve your goals with your friends by your side. It is a great way to have others hold you accountable while meeting and befriending more members of the community.

This job could not be a more perfect fit for me. I have a few years of experience in management and a long-term passion for fitness. Group fitness is the perfect way for me to show others how great it can be to do things that are good for your body. I know how great of a leader I can be while bringing a fun and enthusiastic energy to the club. I am over-the-moon excited about this job.
