Dr. Ramer's research seeks to understand the etiology of adolescent and emerging adult substance use through social learning and systems perspectives. His work primarily focuses on 1) understanding how parents and caregivers socialize youth to substance use, 2) examining how substance use impacts family functioning and health, 3) investigating how individual differences, such as temperament and attitudes, in youth lead to substance use, and 4) leveraging mixed method research designs (e.g., longitudinal panel, intensive longitudinal methods, behavioral observations, qualitative interviews) and advanced data analytic techniques (e.g., multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, moderation and mediation analysis) to answer research questions.
