CEHS Tech EDGE conference unites technology and learning and educators

Tech EDGE 8 will be held from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Henzlik Hall on the University of Nebraska­–Lincoln City Campus. The conference is for university instructors who are interested in learning new ways to use technology in the classroom, to improve instructional practice, and to expose students to 21st century learning tools.
 
The conference will use elementary, secondary, and university educators along with technology specialists to showcase how they use technology in schools at all levels. These hands-on educators will demonstrate how to teach ideas, provide technical support, and show how to establish collaborative sessions to interact with other teachers.
 
Keynote speaker James Paul Gee, a professor of literacy studies at Arizona State University’s College of Education, will speak on “Literacy and Technology: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.” Gee has been widely influential in his methodology for studying communication in its cultural settings. He’s also written books on video games, language and learning, and is widely published in journals in linguistics, psychology, the socials sciences, and education.
 
Technology EDGE is a partnership of universities, public schools, and private schools in Nebraska designed to create a generation of teachers who are effective and confident using new technologies to prepare the students of Nebraska to participate and lead in tomorrow’s global society.

Technology EDGE is supported by a grant from Nebraska’s Coordinating Commission for Post-Secondary Education. The project director is Guy Trainin, associate professor, from the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education at UNL’s College of Education and Human Sciences.
