Hartig receives June CEHS Staff Council Award

16 Jun 2014

Staff Council congratulates Dan Hartig, Specialist in the Instructional Design Center, for being selected June recipient of the CEHS Staff Star Award.

Some of the things Dan’s nominators said about him are:

  • “Dan is an innovator who supports the teaching and outreach mission of CEHS and UNL's land grant mission. In the past two years he has helped our department produce over 200 videos supporting instruction that generates interest in our students, in Nebraska, and reaches all corners of the world. With his guidance and help, a series of online videos related to technology integration were created for Chinese educators.  The videos have had over 60K hits in 4 months. Dan has expertise in filming and editing that enhances our ability to generate meaningful digital content. Dan has been producing and posting two weekly shows on top of everything else he is doing for our programs and college. When students host our shows Dan serves as a guiding hand and calming influence. In short I believe that Dan is innovative, doing things no one else is currently doing, and is performs above and beyond his job duties."
  • "Dan has been a fantastic asset with my work with preservice elementary teachers teaching science. While his job is to record videos of my students, Dan takes time to talk with me about what he is able to see that I often don't see. He also encourages me to try new and innovative practices in my course instruction. With his wealth of knowledge about video, in many ways Dan is my collaborator in developing course experiences that impact students' knowledge of teaching and learning."
  • "Dan has made tremendous strides in using video for educational YouTube and other social media outreach for CEHS, particularly for TLTE. He has learned how to use analytics to gauge the success of each effort. He has worked to streamline the process for those faculty, staff, and students with which he works. His focus and attention to detail results in continuous improvement of quality in video and viewership. Recent efforts on Chinese YouTube have proven successful. Dan has shown leadership, a willingness to learn new skills, and a positive attitude through this endeavors."

Reminder: If you know of a staff member you believe goes above and beyond their scope of duties, make sure to nominate that person. Even if they do not receive the award the first time they are nominated, they can be nominated again until they do.
