Durden wins national Extension specialist award

Impact. It’s what Tonia Durden strives for in her role at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As an assistant professor in Child, Youth and Family Studies and an early childhood Extension specialist, Durden is working to help communities support the healthy growth, development and success of young children. Her work is getting noticed. At a national webinar hosted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture on Thursday, Dec. 5, Durden was formally honored with the 2013 Early Achievement Award.

Smucker, TMFD graduate, has book listed on 2013 "New York Times" gift guide

Having your book included on the “New York Times” Holiday Gift Guide is an honor and distinction that UNL graduate Janneken Smucker recently earned. Her book, “Amish Quilts: Crafting an American Icon,” is on the Times list of antique coffee table books to purchase. Smucker, assistant professor of history at West Chester University in West Chester, PA, completed her master’s degree in textile history from the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design in UNL’s College of Education and Human Sciences in 2003.

Educational Administration Student Affairs master's cohort stands out at conference

The Educational Administration Student Affairs graduate program cohort made their presence known at the NASPA Regional IV-W Conference in Hot Springs, AR in November. NASPA is a professional organization for student affairs administrators and students seeking to enter the profession. All 38 students were in attendance led by Director and Assistant Professor of Practice Corey Rumann and Assistant Professor of Practice Stephanie Bondi. Amy Holland and Luke Bretscher, both second-year students, introduced two of the keynote speakers.

Dalla to Found First Quarterly Journal on Human Trafficking

It's everywhere – provided you know where to find it.

Years of research have taught CYFS faculty affiliate Rochelle Dalla, department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies, that the lesson applies both to the shadowy practice of human trafficking and the scattered information surrounding it.

Dalla will aim to assemble research and foster discourse on the issue by founding the recently approved Journal of Human Trafficking, which she cited as the first of its kind.

Engin-Wedin recognized by Nebraska Department of Education

CYFS faculty affiliate Nancy Engen-Wedin, department of Teacher Learning and Teacher Education, has received the Friend of American Indian Education Award from the Nebraska Department of Education.

Engen-Wedin, coordinator of the Indigenous Roots Teacher Education Program (ROOTS) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was honored at the NDE's Native American Student Achievement Symposium in October.
