Isernhagen, Florendo receive National Rural Education research award

Jody Isernhagen, associate professor in Educational Administration, and Jackie Florendo, a 2012 Ed.D. graduate in Educational Administration, were recently recognized by the National Rural Education Association as recipients of the Howard A. Dawson Best Research Paper Award. The paper, “Administrators Perceptions of Early Childhood Education,” was based on the findings from Florendo’s dissertation. She graduated in December 2012 and is currently the coordinator for Alliance for Kids, an initiative of the Early Childhood Council for El Paso County serving Colorado Springs, CO.

Jha to present on cross-cultural marketing in Dubai Nov. 26

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management has been invited by the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management to deliver a lecture on cross-cultural marketing in hospitality and tourism. Jha will be traveling to Dubai during Thanksgiving week to deliver his presentation on Nov. 26.

"First Generation" free showing Nov. 18, 1:00 p.m.

All are welcome to a free showing of “First Generation,” a film about the unique challenges first-generation college students face.

The film will be shown Nov. 18, 1:00 p.m.  to 3:30 p.m. in the City Campus Union Auditorium.

A panel discussion will follow the the film.

Sponsored by the College of Education and Human Sciences and Learning Communities.

Nov. 13 Bio-Fiber Development Laboratory open house

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design (TMFD) invites the campus community to an open house to showcase its new Bio-Fiber Development Laboratory, located on East Campus immediately west of Ag Hall, near the Holdrege St. entrance to east campus loop. A light lunch buffet will be served. Members of Yiqi Yang's research team will be on hand to welcome visitors and to answer questions.

Staff Council sponsors a behind the scenes tour of the International Quilt Studies Center, Nov. 19

Join us 11:30 to 12:30, Nov. 19, as we share a special tour of the internal workings of the International Quilt Studies Center. We will be guided by Carolyn Ducey and/or Kim Taylor through this campus gem. The tour will take approximately 45 minutes.

After the tour, we will adjourn to the seminar room to enjoy lunch. You may leave your “brown bag” lunch there during the tour.

If your time allows, we would recommend that you spend a few minutes in the second floor gallery afterwards. A must for first time visitors!

HRTM students attend New York trade show

Nineteen students from the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) program leave Nov. 7 for a six-day education study tour to New York City. The main purpose of the trip is to attend the 2013 International Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Show (IHMRS) at the Jacob K. Javits Conference Center. The IHMRS is the largest hotel and restaurant tradeshow in the world. More than 750 exhibitors in the hotel and restaurant industry will participate.
