Amanda Morales, an associate professor of critical multicultural and multilingual education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, was awarded the Dr. Michael Combs Legacy Award and inducted into the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center (JGMC) Hall of Fame on April 22.

Morales was awarded the fifth Dr. Michael Combs Legacy Award, which honors the outstanding contributions of faculty of color on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It is named after Dr. Michael W. Combs, professor of political science, who dedicated his life to the uplift and education of those around him.

“I am deeply grateful and humbled to receive the JGMC Legacy Award," Morales said. "This recognition is a true honor and speaks not only to my work but the personal and professional communities who have come alongside in the work, and those who have raised me, mentored me, and supported me along the way."

The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center Hall of Fame honors those who have made a significant impact on students, the university, and their community. A committee of university staff and members of the Mexican American Student Association, Asian Student Union and Afrikan People’s Union selected the recipients this year, which included five alumni who made a difference in the lives of others and contributed to making the multicultural center a welcoming space for students.
