On Sept. 12, Chancellor Bennett announced a budget reduction plan totaling $27.5 million for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, which included the proposed elimination of two academic programs in the College of Education and Human Sciences – Educational Administration (EDAD), and Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design (TMFD).
These proposals are now in the midst of a thorough review process during which the campus Academic Planning Committee (APC) collects and considers feedback about the proposed cuts before making its recommendations to the chancellor in late October.
Public hearings for each of the academic programs have been scheduled, with hearings for EDAD and TMFD slated for Thursday, Oct. 9. Although the hearings are not open for public comment, livestream links are available on the APC website. Anyone in the community is invited to submit feedback and support directly to the APC through its online Feedback Form until Oct. 13.
More information about the budget reduction process, including rationale, timeline and next steps can be found at budgetprocess.unl.edu/.
More about Educational Administration
The Department of Educational Administration provides graduate-level training for educators, school and district leaders, policymakers, student affairs professionals, campus administrators, community leaders, and innovative thinkers and scholars for more than 100 years. The department serves nearly one-tenth of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduate population and is home to the state’s only doctoral program with concentrations in higher education or community college leadership. Additionally, it is the only University of Nebraska campus offering doctoral preparation for school superintendents.
More about Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design is the only such program in the state of Nebraska, and is at the forefront of recycled, sustainable textiles in the United States. Its programs incorporate science, creativity, and history in the fashion industry to help prepare students for careers in the global retail industry. TMFD offers undergraduate and graduate degrees with an emphasis on adopting more sustainable practices in textile production while creating jobs that are both environmentally and economically beneficial for Nebraska.
