Crystal Garcia, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration will be featured on a Dec. 7 Chronicle of Higher Education panel titled, The Big Universities Students Need Now.
The final session of a four-part series “Going Forward: The Higher Ed We Need Now,” will examine how universities committed to equity can best serve all students. Large research universities must figure out how to move forward in a time of upheaval. As they weigh how to promote equity and inclusion, define “hybrid,” and protect public health, many are facing labor shortages, faculty and staff burnout, and — especially on public campuses — political pressure on multiple fronts. The panel will explore what can and should the student experience look like now?
Co-hosts Michael J. Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College, and Scott Carlson, senior writer at The Chronicle, will bring together faculty, administrator, and student perspectives to discuss:
- What elements of “normal” are still possible and desirable, and how does the student experience need to change?
- How can institutions measure progress toward equity and inclusion?
- Where do campus leaders find their inspiration and ideas?
- What forms of communication allow for broad-based input and sound decision making?
Garcia’s fellow panelists include:
