A retirement reception for Georgia Jones, associate professor and Extension food specialist in nutrition and health sciences, is 3-4:30 p.m. May 7 in room 121 of the Gwendolyn Newkirk Human Sciences Building. Remarks will be at 3:30 p.m.
Jones is retiring from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after more than 25 years in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences. She began her career in the food industry, working for Kraft and General Mills from 1985-92 before returning to school to pursue her Ph.D. in food science at Alabama A&M University.
She joined NHS as an assistant professor and Extension food specialist in 2001 and was promoted to associate professor in 2007. Her Extension work throughout her career has focused on food literacy, with the goal of helping Nebraskans understand food. Jones’s teaching responsibilities have centered on food preparation, safety and sanitation, as well as building an understanding of food from cultural perspectives.
Jones has remained active in the Institute of Food Technologists for more than 45 years, and the Society for Nutrition Education since 2002.
