Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I chose to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln because it has been a lifelong dream of mine ever since I experienced my first Husker football game. The sight of the sea of red, the energy of the crowd, and the overwhelming sense of community left a lasting impression on me. In that moment, I knew this was a place where I truly belonged. As my senior year of high school approached and it was time to decide on my future, I ultimately chose UNL not only because of its strong academic programs and exceptional opportunities but also because of the pride and spirit that define this university. I wanted to be part of a community where that sense of belonging and excitement exists every day — not just on game days.
What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?
I currently serve as the Vice President of the Nutrition, Health, and Promotion Association, a campus organization dedicated to connecting students with professionals working in various nutrition-related fields. Through guest speakers and networking opportunities, the club helps members explore the many career paths available within the field of nutrition and health. In addition to my leadership role, I work for the football nutrition department, contribute to the Nebraska Extension office under the guidance of a nutrition extension educator, and serve as a teaching assistant for a food justice class. These diverse experiences have broadened my perspective and shown me the wide range of opportunities I can pursue with my degree.
What has been your favorite class and why?
My favorite class so far has been Nutrition and Food for Optimal Health (NUTR 344), taught by Linda Young and Georgia Jones. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of nutrition guidelines, meal planning, and nutrient assessments. What makes it especially engaging is the lab, where we have the opportunity to prepare and cook a variety of foods that directly align with the concepts discussed in lecture. This hands-on experience has deepened my understanding of the practical application of nutrition principles and made the learning process even more enjoyable and impactful.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to become a registered dietitian with a specialization in sports nutrition. Throughout high school, I realized how little I knew about proper nutrition before, during, and after games — a gap in knowledge that many young athletes face. This experience sparked my passion for helping others fuel their bodies effectively for performance and recovery. I aspire to be a trusted resource for athletes, providing them with the education and tools they need to optimize their health and achieve their goals through proper nutrition.
