Meet Payton Grove, a communication sciences and disorders (speech language-pathology track) major form Elkhorn, Nebraska. Payton is also pursuing an education minor in the college.
Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I chose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, because they have the best professors, on campus experience, and I’ve grown up visiting the campus and every time I did I always had a great experience.
What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?
CEHS Student Advisory Board, Chi Omega, Nebraska Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA), and Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC)
What has been your favorite class so far and why?
My favorite class so far has been SLPA 250 or Descriptive Phonetics and Normal Speech Development. It was so interesting learning a whole new way to study sounds and transcribe them into different symbols. We also learned about different dialects and how some phonological systems are effected by different disorders.
What are your career goals?
I plan to get my master’s degree in speech pathology and either become an education based speech pathologist or continue on in my education to get a Ph. D. and some day become a university professor in my field.
