Meet Rachel Hovious, a senior from Bartlett, Illinois, who is majoring in elementary education and special education (K-6).

Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I chose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln because of all the opportunities that it offers to students and the environment that it provides! Coming from out of state, I wanted my college experience to feel like a home away from home and to find a place where I would continue to be pushed to be my best, and Nebraska was the perfect choice!!

What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?

Chi Omega

What has been your favorite class so far and why?

Behavior Management with John Maag!! This class challenges you to think outside the box and find the best ways to support all students and make your classroom a more engaging and productive environment. I have used all of these tools and techniques that John has taught in my practicum and student teaching experiences and let me tell you – THEY WORK!

What are your career goals?

After graduation, I want to teach 1st or 2nd grade in Lincoln Public Schools and make sure that all students enjoy coming to school and are having fun while learning! In the future, I want to continue my education and hopefully go on to be a special education coordinator to support all students and provide them with the tools and opportunities to allow them to reach their fullest potential!
