A new podcast launched by the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln aims to support K-12 educators teaching computer science in Nebraska by providing practical insights, resources and strategies for teachers to enhance their computer science instruction.

“CS4NE – Computer Science for Nebraska” is hosted by Guy Trainin, professor of teaching, learning and teacher education, and Kimberly Ingraham-Beck, computer science teacher and director of esports at Gretna Public Schools. Through the podcast, Trainin and Ingraham-Beck hope to address the unique challenges and opportunities within Nebraska’s educational landscape.

“Our goal is to empower educators across Nebraska with the knowledge and tools they need to bring computer science into their classrooms effectively,” Trainin said. “We believe that by supporting teachers, we can ultimately provide better opportunities for students across our state.”

CS4NE comes at a crucial time, as Nebraska recently passed the Computer Science and Technology Education Act, mandating computer science education for K-12 schools, with new graduation requirements set to take effect for the class of 2028.

The first season of CS4NE features a lineup of informative episodes, including an overview of the podcast’s mission and background on the hosts’ personal journeys into computer science education; detailed discussion with Shaun Young from the Nebraska Department of Education about the recent legislation mandating computer science education; interview with Ian Kollipara, describing the National Science Foundation-funded website offering free teaching resources; and insights from Linda Schafer, a K-12 computer science teacher, on developing robust computer science programs in a small rural district.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and other major podcast platforms. New episodes are released bi-weekly, offering continuous support and inspiration for educators. For more information or to listen to the latest episodes, visit cs4ne.org.
