The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln received the Community Partnership Award presented by the Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers of Nebraska in recognition of its collaborations and annual TMFD student expo and teacher expo events.

The TMFD student expo was created in 2024 as a showcase of hands-on activities for high school family and consumer science students from across Nebraska. More than 70 students and teachers from nine schools attended the inaugural event in 2024. The most recent TMFD expo in March 2026 hosted nearly 200 students and teachers from 16 schools across the state.

“The Community Partnership Award holds special meaning for our department because collaboration is woven into the very fabric of our teaching, research, Extension, and service,” said Jennifer Johnson Jorgensen, TMFD chairperson. “We are deeply grateful for our partnerships with the Nebraska Department of Education and Family and Consumer Sciences teachers across Nebraska, whose passion and support play a vital role in advancing education in the textile and apparel industry and beyond.”

The award was presented during the Nebraska Career & Technical Education Conference on June 9 in Kearney, Nebraska.
