Jacob Gill is a junior from South Sioux City, Nebraska, majoring in secondary education: English language arts with a minor in theatre.
Why did you choose your program in the College of Education and Human Sciences?
I chose the secondary education program because I was encouraged to become an educator in high school. With the support of Dr. Amanda Morales through the UNL Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Project, I found my home away from home here in CEHS. Specifically, I chose the ELA content area because of my theatre and speech background in high school, which gave me the desire to enter the content area.
What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?
The Iron N, UNL Aspiring Educators, and CEHS Student Advisory Board.
What is one piece of advice you would share with new or prospective CEHS students?
Go to office hours, meet with your professors, they want to see you succeed just as much as you want to!
What are your career goals?
After graduating, I plan on teaching middle school or high school English, and hope to become a school play director someday.
