Two researchers in the College of Education and Human Sciences have received Joyce R. Jeffries New Faculty Scholar Awards from the Office of Research and Innovation. Patty Kuo, assistant professor in the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies , and Ricardo Martinez, assistant professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, have received the awards to support their research.
A native Nebraskan who spent most of her life in the Chicago area, Jeffries recently moved to Lincoln after working in philanthropy and at William Rainey Harper College. Aware of the pressure faculty can face when establishing their programs, she established a fund to help boost the research development of promising early career faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
This $1,000 award is intended to advance the grant getting efforts of early-stage investigators in science, engineering, or the agricultural sciences. For example, the funds may be used support the costs associated with traveling to network with federal program officers, enhance the preparation of a federal grant proposal, or offset the costs of professional development opportunities related to proposal writing.
Congratulations, Patty and Ricardo!
