CYAF graduate student chosen for teaching mentorship
07 Dec 2017 By Katie Ballue
Anna Burton, a graduate research assistant in Child, Youth, and Family Studies, has been selected for the Society for Research in Child Development (SRDC) Teaching Mentorship Program.
The SRCD Teaching Mentorship Program pairs a SRCD member with tenure or at least seven years of experience in an academic institution with a novice teacher. Through phone calls, goal-setting, and evaluation over the course of 18 months, a mentorship relationship is formed.
The purpose of the program is to equip early-career teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the many different kinds of interactions that come into play as a teacher. The mentor is a rich resource that the student can utilize, and the student can also bring a new perspective to the mentor. This creates a mutually beneficial relationship that empowers both individuals.
