12 CEHS students among Chancellor’s Scholars

Twelve students from the College of Education and Human Sciences will be recognized as Chancellor’s Scholars during the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s undergraduate commencement ceremony May 18 at Memorial Stadium. 

Students who have maintained a 4.0 GPA on all collegiate work at Nebraska and elsewhere are named Chancellor’s Scholars, the highest academic award the university offers. Following is a list of the Chancellor’s Scholars in CEHS by hometown. The information includes academic major(s) and parents’ names. 

Nebraska

Bellevue:

  • Andrew Kowalski – nutrition, exercise and health science, Richard and Lynelle Kowalski 

Elkhorn:

  • Sydney Spanel – elementary education, Shawn and Karen Spanel 

Lincoln:

  • Madelyn Kreifels – family and consumer sciences occupational, Travis and Deidre Kreifels
  • Maya Longoria – elementary education, Michael and Michelle Longoria 

North Platte:

  • Clay Stone – secondary education: English, John and Jessica Stone 

Oakland:

  • Samantha Linder – elementary education, Sean and Mindi Linder 

Omaha:

  • Rachel Johnsen – human development and family science, Sue Vogel and Randy Johnsen
  • Lily Weindel – elementary education, Tim and Amy Weindel 

Roca:

  • Brooklyn Schwaninger – human development and family science, Lonnie and Brenna Schrader

Orange City, Iowa:

Eden Prairie, Minnesota:

The Chancellor’s Scholars will be listed in the May 2024 Commencement program. Each will receive a Chancellor’s Scholar certificate with their diploma and a Chancellor’s Scholar pin to wear on the ribbon of their medallion. The scholars will be seated together at the ceremony and will receive their diplomas first.
